Archie Held
Held claims that he wasn't artistic as a child, only growing into it as a teenager. He went on to study painting, sculpture and graphic art at UCLA, where he received his BA and then an MFA in sculpture. He was awarded the Jim Marcelius Memorial Award for Sculpture and then went to work as a welder to learn some real-wolrd techniques. His work ended up large-scale, his style is exquisitely simple and direct, often including water and stones with the bronze. His pieces can be found in many public and private collections throughout the US and Asia, including the René di Rosa Art Preserve in Napa Valley, the Kobe Steel Corporation in Japan, the City of Los Angeles and the Midway Trading Company in the Philippines.
