How does a canvas painter travel to paper? J.J. L'Heureux loves color and movement, but she found her colors being overwhelmed by the darkness of events such as the passing of a friend, and a studio made uninhabitable by an earthquake. The paintings of this period, "Inclens" and "Aftershocks" had hints of color, but were essentially black. In Italy while working with marble in Carrara she noticed a clementina and its wrapper - so orange and yellow. She made a gift for a friend that was all color and movement. Then it was a label from Amaretto di Sorrono with ships on it. Suddenly there were thousands of paper labels, etichetti in Italian, and the color and joy came back again. The "Etichetti" series is a homage to joy returned. L'Heureux was educated at the San Francisco Art Institute, the Academy of Art in SF, Parsons School of Design in New York and Eastern Michigan University. Her work has been exhibited at distinguished galleries and museums throughout the US and Italy.
