Chiara Mondavi
Chiara Mondavi is a Napa Valley native. She grew up with her sister and brothers in the vineyards, climbing the great oaks and swimming in the Napa River. Educated at California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California, Chiara pursued an Individualized Major, incorporating various mediums of expression such as painting, printmaking, sculpture, video and photography. She is currently focusing on printmaking and painting.
Chiara's love of light has inspired her work immensely. The Napa Valley, she believes, is uniquely graced when the sun crosses from the eastern hillsides to the Mayacama. From sunrise to sunset the light cascades to the valley floor, shimmers through the beautiful oak trees, and filters golden light through the leaves in the vineyards. To Chiara, it is moments like these that are the greatest phenomena of art expressed in life. She feels it has truly been an honor to grow up and to work in the vineyards - both agriculturally and artistically - and to share such beauty with the people she loves. She is also deeply inspired by the art of living in harmony with the land and the many people who passionately dedicate themselves to honoring this delicate relationship.
The artist who has most profoundly inspired her philosophy of life and connection to nature and the world around is her father, Tim Mondavi. Tim says, "Wine is an artistic expression of mans harmony with nature." By his visionary and passionate pursuit of winegrowing, Tim has led by example to always honor and be respectful of those around you, including the land.
