Willis Lee

Born in Ft. Worth, TX in l948, Willis Lee was educated at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, TX and the Rochester Institute of Technology in NM. Lee's photographs, photogravures and iris prints inspire a sense of tranquility. The complexity of his photography lies in his flair for intentional, elegant and simple composition that beckons the viewer to look again. And again. Unlike othe photogravure artists, he completes the entire process himself. It is his fascination with each element of the total process and his wide range of technical abilities, including photography, etching and printing that first attracted Lee to working with gravures in l973. Inspired by such famous photogravure artists as Paul Strand, Edward Steichen and Alfred Steiglitz and Edward Curtis, Willis Lee is committed to producing limited editions to preserve the quality, originality and rarity of his pieces.
