Susan Friedman

Susan Friedman has a BA in Literature from the University of Buffalo and a MA in Film and Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute. She has won a Grammy for her documentary film on MC Hammer and Rap Culture in Oakland, a National Endowment for the Arts Grant for her documentary, "Ki ho alu That's Slack Key Guitar" She feels strongly that an artist must do everything possible to give voice to what moves them. Her work has gone from documentary film to photography and experimenting with alternative techniques.She has utilized the platinum/palladium printing process in an intriguing series of florals, creating imagery that will not fade.

Featured here, her most recent work is titled "Equus". It is about our spirits and our sense of wildness through the image of the Horse. She uses traditional black and white film and large format cameras, printing with Archival pigment inks on Hahnemule Geman etching paper. There are 7 in each edition.
