Sigrid Burton was born in l951 in Pasadena,
CA and educated at Bennington College in VT, UC Berkeley, UCLA and
Columbia University, NY. She has received several honors and awards,
including a Fulbright Scholarship, a residency at the Bellagio Study
Center in Bellagio, Italy through the Rockefeller Foundation and
a Young Artist of Distinction Award from the Rosenthal Foundation,
NY. Sigrid creates richly layered oil paintings and mixed media
works on paper that combine seductive biomorphic forms with strong,
luminous color. She studied the meaning and use of color in traditional
Indian art as a Fulbright Scholar. This experience has led to paintings
of uncommon intelligence and originality.
