Helen Berggruen

Born in San Francisco, CA in l945, Helen was educated at Sarah Lawrence College in NY and Byrd Hoffman School in NY and Paris.

Coming from a life in the theater, she began to paint as a hobby and was then encouraged by her father , the famous Parisian art dealer Heinz Berggruen, to paint seriously. Her work speaks of influences from the Indian and Persian miniatures, French impressionists, 17th Century Dutch and Spanish sill life painters. She paints with saturated, bright colors, often flattening the perspective; in a still life she honors the expressive qualities of the utensils and implements close at hand. Over the years her field of vision has expanded to include rural and urban landscapes at home and abroad.

She has had many one person exhibitions in NY and in CA. Her work appears in several public collections, such as the Chemical Bank of NY and Beringer Vineyards in Napa Valley, CA.
